VEHICLE EMISSIONS
THE HARSH REALITY...

of global carbon emissions come from the transport sector, with 72% of these emissions coming from road transport such as cars, lorries and buses.

In 2016, transport became the UK's biggest greenhouse gas emitting sector.

Just a moderate increase in cycling each year could save an estimated 6-14 million tons of CO2.
CURRENT PROGRESSION...
Sheffield Clean Air Zone - The scheme will mean any vehicle using the inner ring road and city centre zone in a heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), light goods vehicles (LGVs), vans, buses, coaches or taxis will be charged a fee. The scheme will encourage those with the oldest, most polluting vehicles who regularly drive into the zone to upgrade to a cleaner vehicle. The impact of the zone will be much broader than the City Centre. Cleaner vehicles mean reduced emissions across the city, not just in the Clean Air Zone. Funds from the charge will go towards the upkeep of the zone and reducing air pollution in the city. The annual cost of air pollution to the UK is £20 billion and between 28,000 and 36,000 lives. Reducing the damage from air pollution saves money by saving lives.
TAKE ACTION...

Carpool with friends instead of driving alone.
